Sharing a Gemini Canvas with a client

Gemini turns a Canvas into a public g.co/gemini/share link in two clicks, on the free plan. That link opens inside gemini.google.com, anyone who has it can view it (and edit the data in a multi-user app), and it stays up only while the chat is saved in your Gemini activity. For client work, QuickHost hosts the HTML Gemini made and adds a password, a link per person, an expiry date, open tracking and comments.

Fair is fair

When is Gemini Canvas the better choice?

If you’re showing a colleague or a friend something you made, Gemini’s public link is the quickest route: it’s free, it’s two clicks, and the viewer can make their own copy to keep editing. On Google Workspace, sharing through Drive keeps it to signed-in people under your organisation’s Drive rules.

Choose Gemini Canvas if

  • It’s a quick share with someone who doesn’t mind opening Gemini
  • You want them to copy it and keep editing
  • Everyone who needs it is in your Google Workspace organisation

Choose QuickHost if

  • It’s going to a client and should look like your work, outside a Gemini page
  • It needs a password, a link per person or an expiry date
  • You want to know when they opened it
  • The client should comment on it

The difference

Where does Gemini Canvas fall short for client work?

Gemini’s sharing was built for passing a creation along. A client deliverable needs four things it handles differently.

  • It opens inside Gemini

Google says shared links only open in gemini.google.com, so your client sees your deliverable on Gemini’s page, and the Gemini mobile app can’t open it.

  • Anyone with the link can open it

A public link has no password, and Google warns that anyone with the link to a multi-user app can view and edit all of its data.

  • Its life is tied to your chat history

Google keeps the link public only while the chat is saved in your Gemini Apps Activity, so an auto-delete setting can take a client’s link down. There’s no expiry date you set on purpose.

  • No views and no comments

Google documents no view counts and no comments on a shared Canvas, so you won’t know whether it was opened, and feedback comes back by email.

Canvas and its share link are on Gemini’s free plan. Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month, AI Pro $19.99 and AI Ultra from $99.99, mostly for higher usage limits. QuickHost is a separate subscription, from $8 a month.

Switching

How do I move from Gemini Canvas to QuickHost?

Keep making it in Gemini. Publish the version that goes to a client on QuickHost.

  1. 1Open the Canvas, copy its code and save it as an .html file, with any images beside it.
  2. 2Drag the file onto the QuickHost dashboard, run qh publish, or have your agent publish it over MCP.
  3. 3Choose a password or a named link for each person, and an expiry date if it should stop working.
  4. 4Send the link. Your client opens it in any browser, with no Google account.

Questions

What else do people ask about Gemini Canvas and QuickHost?

The questions that come up when someone is deciding between the two, answered plainly.

Can I password-protect a Gemini Canvas?

Not in Gemini. A shared Canvas is a public link that anyone who has it can open. On QuickHost you can put a password on it, on every plan.

Why did my shared Gemini link stop working?

Google keeps a public link up only while the chat is saved in your Gemini Apps Activity. If the chat is deleted, by hand or by auto-delete, the link goes with it.

Can I see who opened my shared Gemini Canvas?

No. Google documents no view counts for shared links. On QuickHost each person gets their own link, and you see who opened it and when.

Can Workspace users share a Canvas privately?

Yes, if their admin allows it. Since June 2026, Workspace accounts can share chats and canvases through Google Drive, where only signed-in people can open them and the organisation’s Drive rules apply.
